icanhascheezburger... for the streets
No introduction will do this justice. I present to you... *Lookin' Ass Kitties*
The descent of Law & Order
I'd probably be a much more successful person if it wasn't for the limitless availability of good Law & Order episodes. Hour after hour is wasted on Lenny Brisko's punny quips, and Jack McCoy's courtroom ninja moves. Like most, I was originally excited when network television upped the dosage by adding "Law & Order SVU", but that enthusiasm quickly waned. And here's why...
If the show was consistently this absurd I would maybe give it another shot, but for now I'll wait for Conan O'Brian to release the SVU lever.

For those that have been under the same rock as me...
If you have been anywhere near a baltimore club dj in the past 2 years you have definitely heard "shake it to the ground" by B'more local Blaqstarr... well, the female vocalist, Rye Rye, is also a baltimore original and was recently signed to MIA's Interscope imprint, N.E.E.T.. check out her myspace here:

Barack'd my Liver
I'm generally not big on the whole political game, but who could resist in this election. I showed my support by celebrating diversity of libations with a rally in my stomach. The guest list was extensive and unbiased. Everyone showed and brought a friend or two. Now I need to focus on uncrossing my eyes, so I'll leave you with this.

how could this be?
The famous Rock group The Eagles recently defied the laws of Rock n' Roll by becoming EVEN MORE LAME. Their new album, their first release in 28 years, will be the first record released on their newly formed very own record label: "The Eagles Recording Company". here's the kicker: the album will ONLY BE SOLD AT WALMART. so while Thom Yorke/Radiohead make the most gangster calls in the history of selling records by making their latest release, "In Rainbows" available for online download with THE OPTION of giving a donation of your choice, The Eagles splinter in the opposite direction and make their album available through the Nazi Germany of retailers. congratulations, douche bags.
oh, and if you're thinking about how "Hotel California" touches you everytime you hear it, go out and find a copy of the cover by the Gypsy Kings... you'll never look back.

Zap Mama at the 8x10 Club
Zap Mama played at the 8x10 Club on Thursday Nov. 1st. It was full of cultury things like afros, dreadlocks, and beautiful black women. She does a pretty good robot dance too, so that's always a plus.

LAZY LAZY
So I've missed a couple of posts in the last few weeks. Here's the rundown:
1. Kings of Leon at Rams Head Live - In-fucking-credible. Go see them anywhere you can
2. Bad Religion at 9:30 Club - Please see 1, above. Gigantic manageable pit.
I regretfully missed Grizzly Bear at the weird church venue thing in Baltimore. That's it for now. I'll try to get some pics up.

Diplo and Switch at Sonar

Diplo and Switch, the duo best known for their collaborations with UK-based artist M.I.A., played the Taxlo party at Sonar this past Friday. Splitting the set time down the middle, Switch opened with a house/electro intensive set, which reminded us all that he is, in fact, a 30-something, bald, white producer/DJ from the UK. Diplo seemed to be constantly in motion traversing the stage while Switch kept the beats the heavy. Eventually Diplo stepped to the decks, and of course, got anybody that wasn't moving before to 'shake it (what) to the ground'. We can only hope that he continues to appreciate Baltimore as much as we appreciate him.

Film - About A Son
Here is the trailer for About A Son, the documentary on Kurt Cobain, based on something like 25 hours of previously unreleased interview time.

Monday Nights @ Idle Hour
Idle Hour (201 E. Fort Ave.) hosts an open-turntable event every Monday night, where anyone can step up to the decks with their own vinyl. I'll be showing up circa 10:30pm with some recent additions to contribute. Come out for a relaxed chill atmosphere and music...
Bonde Do Role @ Sonar (13.9)
Alright, here is how last night went:
1. Some pretty decent asian DJ dude was playing some serious bangers with some meh-MCs.
2. Just when we all thought Bonde Do Role would never make it on-stage, Spankrock and company show up for a surprise muthafuckin performance.
3. Bonde Do Role starts around some unknown time and tore it down.
all in all, drunken brazilian-adrenaline fiasco.

Feist @ Ram's Head Live (11.9)
Feist played at arguably the most awkward venue in Baltimore last night. She and her band were, of course, totally killer and played the better part of her first two solo albums, including her pre-encore closing "Sea Lion Woman", a cover of Nina Simone's "See Line Woman". BANGER.
This was the first show I've been to at Ram's Head Live with a sizeable crowd. Got stuck in the back near the bar where a low ceiling effectively damped the mid to hi frequencies where one would find Feist's vocal range. Learned my lesson... I'll be front and center for any future ventures to this vortex of aural anomaly.
Here is a clip of Feist ripping it up somewhere live... they were recording video last night so the B'more performance will most likely be available sometime soon.
